hi, I’m Charnè
South African, living slowly in Perth, Australia. Mum, wife, Jesus girl, and someone who is almost always either cooking something, baking something, or thinking about what to cook next.
I started this little corner of the internet because I wanted a place that felt real, honest, warm and a little bit like sitting at my kitchen table. Which, fair warning, usually has flour on it.
I run on coffee. A lot of coffee. I am slowly getting back into tea but let’s not pretend it has replaced anything yet.
Since becoming a mum to Callan, everything shifted in the best way. I cook with more intention now, I slow down more, and I have a tiny food critic in training who currently has very strong opinions about pureed sweet potato. We are working on it.
Here you will find recipes that actually get made in my house, bits of everyday life, and regular updates from my sourdough starter who is, I am pleased to report, doing better than I am most days. I am also slowly building a renter-friendly container garden in our courtyard, which is going about as well as you would expect for someone who has never gardened before.
I am SA born, AU made, and deeply convinced that food is how you show people you love them. My gran taught me that. This whole website is basically a love letter to her kitchen and everyone who has fed me along the way.
I am glad you are here. Pull up a chair, grab a coffee, and stay a while.
